Terms of Use
The agreement that applies when you use this website and its tools.
1. Acceptance
By using this website you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site. These terms apply to every visitor; no account or registration is involved.
2. What the service does
PrivacyMetaData provides free, browser-based tools that read and remove metadata from image files. The processing runs on your own device: your files are not uploaded to us. You are responsible for keeping your own backups of any original file.
3. Acceptable use
You agree to use the tools only on files you own or are otherwise permitted to modify, and only for lawful purposes. In particular, you agree not to:
- use the tools to strip attribution, copyright or credit information from work belonging to someone else;
- remove metadata in order to conceal evidence or mislead an investigation, court or tribunal;
- attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse-engineer or interfere with the website or its hosting;
- scrape, frame or republish the site's content without permission.
Metadata removal is a privacy measure, not a way to misrepresent authorship. Please respect photographers' rights.
4. No warranty
The tools are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We work hard to make the metadata removal thorough and correct, but we cannot guarantee that every tool will suit every file, every format or every browser, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
Supported formats and their behaviour are described on the home page. Features labelled "coming soon" are not yet available and no date is promised.
5. Verify sensitive files yourself
If a file is genuinely sensitive — for example it relates to personal safety, legal matters or journalism — verify the cleaned output with an independent metadata inspector before you publish it. Do not rely solely on this or any single tool for a high-stakes decision.
6. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, PrivacyMetaData is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from your use of the site, including data loss, lost profits, or the consequences of metadata that was or was not removed. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
7. Third-party content and advertising
This site displays advertising supplied by third parties and may link to external websites. We do not control that content and are not responsible for it. See our privacy policy for how advertising cookies are handled.
8. Intellectual property
The site's name, design, text and code are owned by PrivacyMetaData unless otherwise stated. You keep all rights in the files you process — we acquire no rights in them, since we never receive them.
9. Changes
We may update these terms as the service develops. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised terms. The "last updated" date above shows the current version.

These terms should be read with our privacy policy, which explains why your images are never uploaded, and our disclaimer, which sets out the tools' format limits and the re-encoding trade-off. Our guide to metadata privacy gives the wider context.
